It was 1942, and America was in war for the second time in 20 years to end world dominance by a German nation that was destroying Europe. We fought that war and eventually won. When it was over, we rebuilt our former enemy, and our allies, so everyone could move forward in peace.
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy challenged the country to put a man on the moon and bring him home safely before the end of the decade. Kennedy said “We don’t do this because it’s easy, we do it because it’s hard.” I watched Apollo 11 land on a foreign, alien soil with Americans inside. The whole world watched Americans step out onto the moon for the first time. I felt as though I participated in that feat because I was an American. This was my country that was doing these amazing things. That may have been America’s greatest moment.
America has all the natural resources we need to be self-sufficient. We have the resources to supply all our energy needs. We have to resources to produce all the metals we need for manufacturing. We have the human resources to build anything we need. Our agriculture feeds the world now. There isn’t anything we can’t do if we decide to do it. The only thing retarding our growth is government regulations that retard us from succeeding. If we decide to stop hampering ourselves, the sky is the limit. All we need to do is get government out of the way.
Our military is still the envy of the world. It will take us some time to rebuild our military strength, but we have the basics in place to protect ourselves if we choose to do so. We need to start now before it’s too late.
Our tax structure can be changed to encourage manufacturing here at home again. Now it is driving our manufacturing off shore. We can bring it back home again with a few changes in the tax laws. When we bring the manufacturers home, the jobs will come home too. The entrepreneurial spirit will flourish and the economy will take off.
We probably have two plus years left of the Obama Administration. If Republicans gain control of the Senate, and keep the House of Representatives, we can stop the President from doing much more damage. At least, we can stop the deterioration of our military and economy. Obama’s failures have eroded his support around the world, but especially here at home. Even the liberals will desert him to save themselves from the wrath of the voters.
I believe in America, and the American people. I really believe that our greatest days may be ahead for us. It won’t be easy, and it may take some time to recover from our current situation, but I know it can be done if the country still exists. Americans have a built-in strength just beneath the surface, and it won’t take much for it to spring to the top. All it takes is a little spark. I still believe we can do it.
